Do you remember going to the Rio on Saturday or Sunday and seeing two movies, a serial, a newsreel, and one or two cartoons -- all for 9 cents! Yea, just Nine cents!!!
My brother would give me and my other brother and two sisters each 25 cents to go to the show. But for a long time he would have me and him carry my sisters in to save their admisson. But then one day I told him, "Bill, Sherry's feet are dragging, I don't think we can do this any more" It is funny what you remember!

Ralph; I was from the east side of Western's district. I grew up going to the Globe Theater on Grand River and Trumbull aves. Similar story, get a quarter to go to the show and spend most of the day there. Visit the candy store around the corner and walk down into the store from street level. It seemed like most candies were 3 for penny. You would get a day and a 1/2 supply of candy for 16 cents you had to spend other than admission. Sometimes stay and watch cartoons and the serial over again. What wonderful experiences we had growing up! So long ago, yet, it only seems like yesterday at times.

I remember going to the Rio show and they wouldn't let me in cause they thought I was to old for the kid prices. I was a big kid I guess. I had to run all the way home to Central and Cahalan to get my birth certificate just to prove I could get in for cheap. I use to cry! Funny now. We use to always go down a few doors to the Better Made potatoe chip store and get chips for the movies. You would get this huge bag for like 10 cents??? I sure remember two shows and cartoons for so little money. Those were the days. No economy issues I can remember. )

My mother used to give me a quarter and send me to the Rio on Sat afternoons to get me out of her hair. I remember hiding behind the seat in front of me every time the Creature of the Black Lagoon would make an appearance on screen.
Great times to remember.

Darn Ed, and here I thought I was the only one that was scared. We would go to the show during the afternoon, then at night I would have to help my bother with his night Free Press route. Yea the Creature was behind each darn bush. LOL So I figured if I run across the street and stayed on the lawns as much as I could the creature wouldn't hear me coming and know I was there. It worked fine till I come up behind my bother and scared the hell out of him. My help was not needed much after.
